KMA Business and Management Services was established in 1987 by Kay Ashton as a small accountancy and consultancy practice, and she believes it can offer the same high standard of client care that the larger firms offer, at a competitive price, because overheads are kept to a minimum, but with the added value of personal service.

Kay was admitted to membership of the ACCA in 1981 and became a Fellow in 1986. She holds the ACCA's Consultancy certificate. In addition, Kay gained a Masters Degree in Business Administration (MBA) at Cranfield in 1987, and previously had gained a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) Degree in Business Studies at (what is now) London Guildhall University.
